Beakstein
is a bird. An ordinary bird living an extraordinary life...
Deborah Rinzler and Paul Olsen live in New York City with their
cat, Snuski. In recent years, Paul has been struggling with the
ever-worsening symptoms of multiple sclerosis. Deborah, his
partner of over two decades, shoulders the tremendous weight of
caring for him.
As Paul's disease progresses and the couple's difficulties mount,
Deborah finds a baby starling on the street. Helpless and
alone, the baby bird is unable to fly or find food for herself.
Deborah adopts her, names her Beakstein, and proceeds to bring her
up "...educated and cultured, as a good mother should..."
Beakstein learns to talk and sing and becomes a cherished member
of their family, exchanging joy and comfort with Paul and Deborah
when they all need it the most.
This film is dedicated to the memory of Paul and Snuski...
